What to Expect
Wat Pha Lat Wat Phra That Phra, also known as Wat Phra That Phra and the Hermit Temple, is located on the hillside of Doi Suthep Mountain in Chiang Mai. It is known as a hidden temple. There is a small mountain trail leading to the famous Doi Suthep Mountain. The exact construction time of Wat Phra That Phra is unknown, but judging from its architectural features, it was built at least 500 years ago during the Lanna period, integrating the beauty of Sukhothai and Burmese art. This was once an abandoned temple, which was restored around 1991. Currently, the temple enshrines Buddha, and monks live and practice here.
Although Wat Phra That Phra is smaller and less magnificent, it has dense jungles, quiet statues and Buddhist temples. Its environment is more peaceful and it is also a place for meditation that allows people to calm their hearts. From here, you can overlook the scenery of Chiang Mai City, which is refreshing and pleasant.
There are many beautiful attractions in the temple. You can walk around and admire the architecture, buildings and various decorations, breathe the breeze, and feel the tranquility and freshness of the surrounding nature. Don't forget to pay homage to the Buddha and pray for good luck and peace~
Chiang Mai United Hill Tribes
The United Nationalities Village in Chiang Mai is home to five major ethnic minorities: Long Neck, Big ears Kayaw, Hmong, Pa-Long, and Akar.
Women of the Long Neck tribe wear copper hoops to lengthen their necks; the Big Ear tribe is named after the large earrings worn by women; the Mongolian people are most proud of their colorful costumes and exquisite silver jewelry; the Bulang people are good at weaving bamboo baskets and making silver jewelry; and the Akha people are famous for their unique religious beliefs and rituals.
The village recreates the traditional lifestyles of the five ethnic minorities. Visitors can visit their villages, houses, clothing, and handicrafts. In addition, they can visit rose gardens and tea gardens (oolong tea, Assam tea, rose tea, Fujian tea...), and buy their favorite tea leaves.
You can also pay extra to feed the elephants or take photos with them and get closer to nature.
